Teacher Accused Of Molesting Boy Several Years Ago

KOKOMO, Ind. -- A Fort Wayne middle school teacher and soccer coach was arrested Monday on suspicion of molesting a Kokomo boy several years ago, Kokomo police said.

Michael Chad Smith, 35, was arrested at Canterbury Middle School in Fort Wayne, where he teaches and coaches. The arrest stems from allegations made by a 16-year-old boy, who told police Smith molested him in Kokomo when he was 8 to 11 years old, authorities said.

At the time of the alleged molestation, Smith was a soccer coach at Northwestern High School in Howard County, police said. The child was a friend of Smith's family, according to police.

Police said the boy made the allegations last month.

Smith, of Fort Wayne, faces two felony counts of child molestation. He was taken to the Allen County jail on Monday and was expected to be transferred to the Howard County jail, police said.
