Teen Critically Injured In ATV Crash

MORGANTOWN, Ind. -- A 16-year-old girl was critically injured in an all-terrain vehicle crash Saturday morning.According to a release from the Department of Natural Resources, Emily Downey, 15, of Morgantown drove an ATV with Chelsea Elliott, 16, of Trafalgar riding as a passenger.Officials said the girls were riding on a pond dam when Downey hit a tree and the ATV rolled into the pond.
Downey was pinned under the ATV’s rear tire and was trapped under water for between 10 to 15 minutes.Downey was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital, but was then taken by helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was listed in critical condition Saturday evening.DNR officials said neither girl was wearing a helmet.
