FRANKLIN COUNTY -- A former township trustee is accused of misappropriating $16,918 in taxpayer money, according to an audit just released by the State Board of Accounts.

Britney Ison, former trustee for Brookville Township in Franklin County, received thousands of dollars in salary, office rent and travel reimbursements that she was not entitled to receive.

Ison also spent $584.61 on 22 printer ink cartridges for personal use, according to the audit.

Auditors also pointed out that the township lacked documentation for other expenses including a wireless phone bill, and that the township bank account was overdrawn resulting in overdraft fees.

The State Board of Accounts requested Ison repay $16,918.

The agency also warned the township it lacks oversight because the trustee serves as both the township executive and the township fiscal officer.

The agency also forwarded the audit to Franklin County prosecutor Melvin Wilhelm.

Milhelm told Call 6 Investigates he wants police to perform a criminal investigation before he determines whether Ison could face criminal charges.

Ison’s term ended on December 31, 2014.

Call 6 Investigates left a message for the new trustee, Kathryn Flaspohler.
