CALL 6: Crimes rise when streetlights go out

INDIANAPOLIS – Darker areas of the city are known to have an increase in crime, according to Indianapolis police, but who is in charge of keeping those areas lit?

Out of more than 29,000 street lights in 2016, about 8,100 were reported broken in and around Indianapolis. People often blame the city for broken streetlights but they're actually owned by IPL.

IPL said streetlights are usually fixed within 48 hours after they’ve been reported broken.
