MIAMI COUNTY — A former Town of Bunker Hill clerk-treasurer is being asked to repay $73,424.07 to the state of Indiana and the town after a special investigation by the Indiana State Board of Accounts.

The investigation found former clerk-treasurer Lisa Wilson used taxpayer money for personal and undocumented expenses.

The state’s investigation found Wilson funneled money into her business, Hoosier State Realty.

Wilson purchased items at a home improvement store, including landscaping materials, that were found at Wilson’s residence, according to the audit.

Auditors found the town made $2,250 in payments to Hoosier State Realty for furniture and office supplies, but Wilson did not present the claims to the town council for approval nor did she file a conflict of interest disclosure statement, as is required by Indiana code.

The State Board of Accounts forwarded the special investigation report to the Miami County prosecutor who will decide whether to file criminal charges.

Prosecutor Bruce Embry told Call 6 Investigates Tuesday afternoon that he is filing criminal charges against Wilson, and that a warrant will soon be issued.

Wilson’s attorney Jeffrey Stanton told Call 6 Investigates they are working toward a resolution, and they’re still reviewing the State Board of Accounts audit.

Current clerk-treasurer Andrea Newnum was unavailable for comment Tuesday, and a worker who answered the phone said she didn’t know anything about Wilson’s case.

The town’s former court clerk, Carenna Byers, was arrested for theft and forgery.
