INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis police officer who fatally shot a man last week had been disciplined twice in his six years on the force, Call 6 Investigates learned Monday.
IMPD Officer Robert Carmichael shot and killed 44-year-old Kevin Hicks last Tuesday during an altercation. Hicks allegedly attacked Carmichael when the officer responded to a 911 call Hicks' wife made claiming he was beating her.

Following the shooting, Heather Hicks has demanded police focus on why her husband was shot – not their past relationship problems.

According to Carmichael's personnel file, he was first disciplined in February 2013, when he was given a written warning for violating the off-duty illness and injury policy.
A month later, Carmichael was given a 20-day suspension for not following the department's take-home car policy.
According to IMPD's general order, people who live outside the county are not eligible to take part in the take-home car program.
Per standard department procedure, Carmichael was placed on administrative leave last week pending the outcome of an investigation into the shooting.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office has said it will not release video showing a portion of the fight that led up to the shooting, claiming it could hurt the integrity of the investigation.
