INDIANAPOLIS -- Call 6 Investigates along with the Indiana Attorney General's office has put together a list of some of the biggest scams of the year.
Those scams cost Hoosiers more than $1.1 million in 2015.
The attorney general's office says they received more than 3,400 complaints of people being scammed.
Most common was the IRS scam, where callers claim to be with the IRS and demand immediate payment of past-due taxes.
Scammers might threaten arrest and jail time if the payment is not received immediately, and usually request that the money be paid back through the purchase of pre-paid cards.
The scam that cost Hoosiers the most money in 2015 - $365,000 - was the sweepstakes/lottery scam.
The person calling convinces someone they've won a prize but they must pay fees and taxes before they can claim it.
Once the scammer receives these 'fees', they take off with the money and person never hears from them again.

The Attorney General's office has advice so you don't become a victim in 2016:
- Don't do business with people who call you. Only do business when you make the call so you have a record of the number you dialed.
- Sign up for Indiana's Do Not Call List. To register or confirm your number is on the list, visit www.IndianaConsumer.com or call 1-888-834-9969.
- Don't feel pressured to make quick decision. Take time to research any offers or demands.
- Don't send money to claim a prize
- Don't send money using a wire service, like Western Union or MoneyGram, or with pre-paid cards.
