Carrier workers learn layoffs may come in two waves

INDIANAPOLIS – Carrier workers facing job loss at the Indianapolis west side plant learned Wednesday that layoffs may occur during two different time periods.

Those 550 employees learned the layoff period may happen in August 2017 and December – January, respectively.

On Friday, employees impacted by the move learned they were able to apply for voluntary separation. They have until March 6 to apply for the program.

Employees who are eligible must confirm their participation in writing by April 6 and that decision cannot be reversed.

Carrier officials announced in February that 1,400 jobs would move to Mexico, but a deal with made between the company and then-GOP Presidential Candidate Donald Trump and then-Governor Mike Pence saved nearly 800 of those jobs.
