Missing Kokomo woman's family waiting on identity of body found in Illinois

KOKOMO, Ind. -- The family of an 18-year-old Kokomo woman who has been missing for nine months is still searching for answers in her disappearance.

Karena McClerkin disappeared on October 11, 2016.

Her grandmother, Gerry McClerkin, told Call 6 Investigates Tuesday her son is inIllinois checking to see if a female body found is that of Karena.

The body was found in the Kankakee River, and police are asking for help in identifying the woman who is believed to be in her late teens or early 20s.

“It fits the description of Karena,” Gerry said.

The last place the 18-year old was seen was near the intersection of Markland Road and Washington Street.

“I won’t give up and I will find her,” Gerry said. 

She expressed frustration at the lack of arrests in the case.

“I believe police know who did this,” she said.

The Kokomo Police Department told Call 6 Investigates the case is under investigation and they are following up on leads.
