Police probe theft of Girl Scout cookie cash

Mom tells police her son's friend is suspected

INDIANAPOLIS - A police investigation has been launched after nearly $1,000 in Girl Scout cookie money was stolen from a Lawrence home.

Police were called to a 44-year-old mother’s home near Pendleton Pike and North Franklin Road when the money turned up missing from its hiding spot beneath a mattress.

The mother told police her daughter had collected $990 in cash for her recent Girl Scout cookie sales, but that hidden money turned up missing after several boys gathered at the home on Monday to play video games.

Police said the cash had been hidden under a mattress so that it could be turned in later. The mother discovered the money missing after her 15-year-old son said he left one of his friends alone in the house while gaming with a PlayStation 3.

Police now have the name of the 18-year-old suspect, but no arrests were immediately made as police gather evidence in the case.
