LAWRENCE, Ind. - Police were on the lookout for a van driver after an 11-year-old schoolgirl said he tried to lure her from her bus stop Wednesday morning in Lawrence.
Police said the girl was standing at her bus stop on Kercheval Drive at East 54th Street when the man approached her around 8 a.m.
Officers wrote in their report that the man told her, "I got candy and can take you wherever you are going."
The child became frightened and started running to Harrison Hill Elementary School, which is two blocks from her bus stop.
Officers responded to the school, where the principal and a teacher said the girl was found crying in a bathroom.
She described the person as a white male with a clean-cut beard and mustache and wearing black clothes. His van was described as white or tan with an orange ladder on top.
Police canvassed the neighborhood but reported no arrests and no leads on the man’s identity.
