INDIANAPOLIS - A police standoff in downtown Indianapolis ended early Thursday after more than six hours of negotiating with a man who barricaded himself inside an apartment building, police confirmed.
Just after 8 p.m. Wednesday, SWAT teams were called and authorities were investigating after reports of gunshots from the 19th floor window of the Barton Tower apartment building in the 500 block of Massachusetts Avenue.
SWAT officers said the man involved in the standoff was a visitor to Barton Tower, not a tenant.
A source told the Call 6 Investigators that the man was visiting his mother on the 19th floor.
The standoff ended just after 2 a.m. Thursday, when police used tear gas to get the man from the apartment, a source told the Call 6 Investigators.
IMPD confirmed there were no hostages, and adjacent apartments were evacuated.
The streets were blocked off surrounding the building.
No injuries were reported as a result of the alleged shots fired.
In addition to the shots fired toward the street, there was also a bullet hole in the hallway of the apartment, indicating a shot was fired inside the building, the Call 6 Investigators learned.
The suspect's name was not released, and no information about the man's motive has been made available.
