A car fatally struck a 5-year-old boy riding a scooter on a street just outside his Avon-area home Thursday afternoon, the Hendricks County Sheriff's Department said. The child, Bryce A. Bear, had just finished visiting a neighbor with his father. He was on an electric scooter, crossing Thistle Court to get home, when the car hit him at about 3:20 p.m., authorities said.Police said Bear was wearing a helmet when he was struck. He was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the car's driver, a 16-year-old boy, might have had his view obstructed by a trailer that was parked on the street, located just north of Avon.No charges or citations were filed in the incident Thursday afternoon, but the case is still under investigation."All I can tell everyone is just to try to keep an eye out and pay the best attention that you can," said Hendricks County sheriff's Capt. Brett Clark.
