A real estate broker in Anderson is taking the eBay craze to a new level, putting a portion of Anderson's downtown skyline up for sale on the popular shopping site. Before getting into real estate, Jeanne Clarkson said she was a prolific eBay seller. Clarkson said she believes it's important to utilize technology in marketing properties, 6News' Chance Walser reported.Clarkson is trying to sell the First Merchants Bank building, the Union Building and a property at 11th and Jackson streets in a package for $4.5 million."I was a power seller on eBay before I got into real estate, and I thought
I could try to market property on eBay," Clarkson said. "People are contacting me from around the world. I've had Toronto, Canada, Ontario, London, Japan."The properties aren't an auction listing, but are posted to eBay's classifieds section. A California investor has owned the properties since 2006 and asked Clarkson to help sell them when property taxes on the Union Building increased."The way we do taxes in Indiana changed, and it went from $11,000 a year in taxes to $65,000," Clarkson said.Clarkson said she realizes the challenge that property owners have in keeping tenants in the Anderson buildings as the local economy struggles. The Merchants building is about 60 percent occupied, with several other businesses running out of the other buildings.Clarkson is confident investors will be interested.
