A college student from New Jersey was killed early Monday morning in a crash on Interstate 65 in Boone County.
The crash happened about 4:45 a.m. at the southbound I-65 ramp to Lafayette Avenue, the Boone County Sheriff's Department said.
Rayyah Andrews, 20, was thrown from a van when Allen Griffin, 19, of Chicago veered into a guardrail.
"Andrews was lying in the middle seat, unrestrained," Boone County sheriff's Cpl. Chris Burcham said.
Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene.
Griffin and another passenger, Vyshona Simmons, 18, of Chicago, were treated and released from a hospital. Another passenger, Rakeem Rashad, 21, of Chicago, was not injured.
Police said the van was bound for Central State College in Ohio, where the women go to school.
Investigators are not sure why the van crashed into the guardrail, but they do not believe alcohol was involved.
