Two off-duty deputies observed a possible drug deal in the parking lot of the Bethel Townhomes in the 3000 block of Baltimore Avenue the night of May 1.

When they approached one of the men, Anton Butler, 28, he shoved drugs into his mouth and ran, police said.

The deputies caught up with Butler and used a stun gun to subdue him, but he soon began foaming at the mouth before becoming unconscious, police said.

Butler was taken to Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A report released Thursday showed Butler died from sudden cardiac arrest due to acute cocaine intoxication.

"My sympathy continues to be extended to the family of Anton Butler," Sheriff John Layton said in a news release. "Sadly, young Anton Butler died of cocaine use, and his drug dealer has blood on his hands."
