A southern Indiana teen died at his home last Friday after playing a choking game, the Washington County coroner confirmed.

Officials said Isaiah Shell, 14, of Salem, died from accidental positional asphyxiation.

Indiana State Police said Shell was found in the basement by a family member, the Salem Leader reported.

Medical experts said the choking game involves intentionally trying to choke oneself to attain a brief and intense high, and is especially common among middle school children.

Officials warned parents to educate their children about the dangers of playing the game.
