A couple was thrown from their seats when a car crashed through a south side McDonald's restaurant on Saturday.

The incident happened just after 1 p.m. at the restaurant at 5416 S. East St.

William McIntire, 82, told firefighters that his car surged forward when he hit the brake as he was pulling into a parking spot on the north side of the building.

"When asked if he thought he may have hit the gas instead, he stated he was positive he didn't," said Indianapolis fire Capt. Rita Burris.

A couple eating lunch in the restaurant said they were thrown from their seats by the impact.

They were not seriously injured.

McIntire and his passenger, Donna McIntire, 76, were also not injured.

The damage to the building is estimated at $40,000. The franchise owner said the building had recently been remodeled.
