BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- A 76-year-old woman and her caregiver were found severely injured inside a barn in rural Boone County Friday evening.

Deputies were called to the home near the intersection of Taylor Road and US 421 around 7 p.m. after someone had reported two people were dead inside a barn. When officers arrived, they found the homeowner, Helen Fix, and her 41-year-old caregiver injured in the barn.

Both women were taken to the hospital. Fix was treated and released Friday evening.

The caretaker was originally listed in critical condition and is listed as stable.

Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen said they interviewed multiple people about the incident but have not made any arrests.

"In an investigation like this it takes considerable time to investigate it clearly," said Sheriff Nielsen.

The sheriff said deputies have responded to the home on eight different occasions since 2014. The last visit was on March 6th for an intimidation call.

The incident remains under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
