90-year-old couple tied up, beaten & robbed in Rockville home

ROCKVILLE, Ind. -- A 90-year-old man and a 91-year-old woman were tied up and beaten Wednesday by robbers who broke into their home.

Parke County Sheriff's deputies were called to the home in rural Rockville, Indiana, around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies arrived to find the two elderly residents had been badly beaten and robbed.

The man and woman told police two people broke into their home, beat them, tied them up and the ransacked the place. They were eventually able to free themselves and call for help.

The man was transported to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to Indianapolis with a skull fracture.

At approximately 2 a.m. Thursday, police located Gary Sears Jr., 25, of Terre Haute, Indiana, and Katrina Cotrell, 28, of Clinton, Indiana, at a gas station in Terre Haute. Sears and Cotrell were reportedly found to be driving a vehicle with a large amount of the victims' stolen property in it.

The pair was booked into the Parke County Jail on preliminary charges of armed robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, burglary resulting in serious bodily injury, theft and credit card fraud.

During the investigation, police also located 24-year-old Kathryn Smith and 32-year-old James Gregory, both of Rockville, while following up on the vehicle and suspect descriptions. Smith was arrested on preliminary charges of driving while suspended and maintaining a common nuisance. Gregory was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing marijuana and possession of syringes.

Believing the two to be involved in the Rockville robbery, police went to Smith's and Gregory's apartment, where they reportedly found additional drug paraphernalia and syringes. They also found three people inside the apartment – 24-year-old Barbara Rice, 30-year-old Tasha Burchett and 34-year-old Robert Sekerak – who were arrested on preliminary charges of visiting a common nuisance.
