INDIANAPOLIS -- An alleged member of the "Grundy Crew" gang will serve at least five years in community corrections pursuant to a plea deal agreed upon Wednesday.

Avery Bullock, 25, has been in custody at the Marion County Jail on a $200,000 bond since October 2015, when he and nearly a dozen other alleged members of the Grundy Crew were arrested and charged with being part of a dangerous drug trafficking organization.

Prosecutors linked Bullock and the Grundy Crew, which included his family members Adrian Bullock and Richard Grundy III – the group's alleged ringleader – to at least seven murders in Indianapolis.

Evidentiary issues have since caused murder and conspiracy to commit murder charges against the group to be dropped, and a number of the alleged gang members, including Grundy's father, Richard Grundy Jr., have reached plea deals with prosecutors.

Adrian Bullock has so far received the most serious time of any of the alleged gang members. He was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On Wednesday, Avery Bullock became the latest crew member to reach a plea deal with prosecutors. According to a copy of the agreement released to RTV6, Bullock has agreed to plead guilty to the following counts:

  • Dealing in cocaine, level 2 felony
  • Carrying a handgun without a license, class "A" misdemeanor (x3)
  • Dealing in marijuana, class "C" felony
  • Resisting law enforcement, level 6 felony

In exchange, prosecutors have agreed to drop four felony counts against him:

  • Possession of cocaine, level 4 felony
  • Corrupt business influence, class "C" felony
  • Conspiracy to commit murder, class "A" felony
  • Criminal gang activity, class "D" felony

The plea deal calls for Bullock to serve at least five years in Marion County Community Corrections. Prosecutors have agreed not to ask for a maximum sentence above 10 years. The final sentence will be left to the discretion of the court.

A number of alleged Grundy associates are still facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, corrupt business influence, dealing in marijuana and criminal gang activity.  Of those, only Eric David Butler remains in custody.

Alleged Grundy Crew hitman John Means was arrested in February on unrelated charges of dealing in marijuana and possession of a firearm by a serious felon and was released earlier this month.
