ANDERSON, Ind. – The aunt of a severely malnourished Anderson teen was found guilty on all six counts of neglect on Friday.

It took the Madison County jury less than three hours to find Crystal Sells guilty on three counts of neglect of a dependent and three counts of neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury.

Crystal’s 15-year-old mentally disabled niece was severely malnourished and weighed only 40 pounds when she was taken to the hospital on Dec. 1, 2014.

Investigators said the teen had not seen a doctor or attended school since 2012, and she may have been locked in the room for four years.

The teen’s grandparents, Steve and Joetta Sells were the first ones arrested in connection with the abuse. They were both sentenced to 24 years in prison after accepting a plea agreement in 2015.

Crystal will be sentenced later this month.
