BRAZIL, Ind. -- Brazil, Indiana, police arrived at the home of a man who called 911 to say he'd been shot Friday morning to discover him unresponsive.

Eric Hutton, 27, of Brazil, Indiana, was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Vincent/Clay Hospital.

Hours later, a person of interest in the case was located on the 600 block of West Central Avenue in Brazil.

Officers tried to get the individual to come out of a residence, and the individual did appear in the window for a brief time showing both hands.

The individual then closed the curtains. A short time later, police reported hearing a single gunshot.

Upon entering the apartment, police found an unidentified male lying on the floor with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The male was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said they are treating Hutton's death as a homicide investigation.
