COLUMBUS, Ind. -- A 51-year-old Columbus woman was arrested Sunday after her 2-year-old grandson was found wandering around a playground covered in feces.

Columbus Police were called to the Commons Mall playground around 4:40 p.m., when somebody said they saw a child with feces on their hands. The caller said nobody checked on the child, and that she asked the other adults. When nobody found a parent, she called police.

Two people at the indoor playground cleaned up the child and changed his diaper.

He was taken to the Columbus Police Department, where the Department of Child Services later arrived.

About an hour later, the child's grandmother, Brenda J. Fox, arrived at the police station. She told police she never saw the police at the playground, and that nobody ever approached her about the grandchild.

She was arrested and preliminarily charged with neglect of a dependent. Police noted she appeared to be under the influence of a narcotic.

The child was released to custody of his parents.
