DELPHI, Ind. -- A task force has been formed to keep the walking trails near Delphi safe following the murders of two girls.

Liberty German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 13, went missing on Feb. 13 after being dropped off to go hiking near Monon High Bridge just outside of Delphi. Their bodies were found the next day less than a mile from where they were dropped off.

The Trail Safety Task Force will be composed of community members from law enforcement, trail organizations, schools and the public.

The task force will consider the following ideas:

  • Educating the public on safety
  • Adding cameras
  • Mapping and coordinating locations for 911 identification
  • Placing appropriate signs
  • Utilizing safety stations
  • Conducting patrols

The Wabash & Erie Canal Association, a local non-profit, is collecting donations to raise money for the task force.

A 5K benefit run will take place on or near June 3 and Security Federal Savings and Loan of Delphi and First Federal Savings and Loan of Greensburg are collecting public donations for trail cameras.

No arrests have been made in the murders of Abby and Liberty. Indiana State Police released a picture of a suspect, which was taken by Liberty on her cell phone. She also captured a man's voice saying "down the hill" during what police call "criminal activity." You can listen to that recording and see the photo below.

Indiana State Police ask anyone who recognizes the man or the voice, or who may have any other information, to call the Tip Line at (844) 459-5786 or 1-800-225-5324 (800-Call FBI). Tips can also be emailed to Abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com. Information can be reported anonymously.
