INDIANAPOLIS -- Police made an arrest Wednesday in a high-profile killing earlier this month on the Broad Ripple strip – one of a minority of this year's 120 homicides that have moved out of the "unsolved" category.
As of this writing, 67 cases have not resulted in an arrest. That's just under 56 percent of all criminal homicides this year.
Those unsolved cases include some of the earliest of the year. Wesley Collins, Edward Rice and Christopher Carlson were killed on January 5, 7 and 8, respectively. All of their cases remain open.
They also include some of this year's youngest victims. On February 3, 16-year-old Jaylan Murray was shot and killed during an apparent robbery. In August, another 16-year-old, Theothus Carter, was killed on East 16th Street.
Neither case has seen an arrest.

Just like overall homicides, most of the victims of the unsolved cases are black men – about 70 percent of unsolved cases have black male victims, versus 67 percent of all homicide cases. In most of the cases, police haven't officially reported a motive. In the cases where they have, drugs are the most commonly suspected reason for the killing.
