INDIANAPOLIS -- A former IMPD officer who was convicted of drunken driving in connection with a deadly 2010 crash will stay behind bars until his official release in June.
Eric Wells was killed when David Bisard ran his cruiser into three motorcycles in Indianapolis. Two other people were injured.
The case was moved to Fort Wayne due to pre-trial publicity. Bisard was convicted in 2013 and sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Wells' family received notice in January that Bisard could eligible for the Indiana Department of Correction's Community Transition Program as early as February 25.
If approved, Bisard would have been sent to work release, home detention or day reporting program prior to his June release date
The judge overseeing the case ruled last Wednesday that Bisard is not eligible for early release.
Mary Wells says she appreciates the letters that were sent to the judge opposing Bisard's release and she is pleased with his decision.

Bisard's original estimated release date was April 29, 2018, but the IDOC says in addition to credit for good behavior, a year was taken off his sentence for receiving an associate's degree while behind bars, he received 183 days' credit for pursuing vocational education and 90 days' credit for completing a substance abuse program.
That means Bisard is scheduled to be released June 6 of this year.
