MIAMI COUNTY, Ind. -- A father was robbed of one of his most beloved possessions Saturday evening – a necklace holding his son’s ashes.

Mike Arbuckle said the cross necklace was stolen from his truck sometime Saturday near Grissom Air Force Base. His son died in 2015 at the age of 19.

Arbuckle said when he left work around 6 p.m., he noticed his truck was trashed.

The center console was broken into, papers were thrown around, and $20 in change was missing, he said.

The one item Arbuckle did care for, he couldn’t find.

Arbuckle hopes the person who stole the necklace will return it.

"I don't know if whoever took it knows what they took, but they actually took him with them,” said Arbuckle.

The theft was not reported to police as Arbuckle said he has little faith law enforcement could track it down, especially with the lack of officers at the Bunker Hill Police Department.

“I just want it back. That's it," said Arbuckle.
