JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. -- A Franklin police officer was arrested Monday for domestic battery by the Johnson County Sheriff's Office.

Franklin police officers were sent to the home of Schyuler Brown in response to a domestic disturbance.

To avoid any conflict or appearance of impropriety, the Johnson County Sheriff's Office was contacted to conduct the investigation.

The alleged victim told police Brown threw a paper plate at her during an argument. The plate had a fork on it, which cut her face. She also said their 3-year-old son was in the room during the argument.

Brown told police he turned his body while holding the plate, and cut the woman.

Brown was "pleasant and compliant" during the investigation by the sheriff's department, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Brown has been placed on leave pending an investigation and merit commission hearing, according to Franklin Police Chief Tim O'Sullivan.

O'Sullivan said the city was 'very disappointed' to learn of Schyuler's arrest.
