JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after rear-ending a vehicle, fleeing the scene and refusing to stop for law enforcement, according to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

A Johnson County deputy was given a vehicle description after learning of a hit-and-run on I-65 near the 95 mile marker.

The suspect’s vehicle was described as a green, full-sized van, which left the crash scene and headed eastbound on County Road 700 East.

The deputy eventually caught up with a Shelby County deputy, who was also following the van.

The van was driving at least 100 miles per hour, police said.

After refusing to stop for the Shelby County deputy, “spike strips” were placed, causing the vehicle to run over them and come to a stop.

Driver Robert Dezelan, 55, of Shelbyville said he did rear-end a vehicle, but didn’t think it caused enough damage to stop, police said.

He was arrested and taken to the Shelby County Jail for resisting law enforcement, according to officers.
