INDIANAPOLIS -- Ten people have been killed in Indianapolis in the past week, propelling the city's homicide total to 141 for the year.

Just a day before Thanksgiving, 20-year-old Evans Johnson and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Jessica Downey, were shot to death on the northeast side.

Then, on Sunday, three people were killed: 60-year-old Derann Alfonzo; 15-year-old Roshun Johnson; and a still-unidentified 45-year-old male.

Two more people were killed Tuesday, both men in their early 20s. Neither's identity has been released yet.

The death toll continued to mount Wednesday morning with another pair of homicides. One, a fatal shooting, occurred around 5:30 a.m. on the far-east side. The other homicide investigation was launched after a body was found inside a burned truck on the 3600 block of Dearborn Street. IMPD says detectives are investigating whether the two homicides are connected.

Adding to the 10 homicides over the past seven days, 25-year-old Reginald Hendricks died Monday from injuries he sustained in road rage shooting earlier this month.

Hendricks' death, plus the past week's nine homicides, push Indianapolis' homicide total for the year up to 141 – one more than the number 2006, previously the third-deadliest year in history, ended with.

Last year ended as the deadliest year in the city's history with 145 criminal homicides. It broke the previous record of 143 homicides set in 1998. As of Wednesday's date in 2015, there had been 138 homicides in Indianapolis.
