WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. -- An off-duty Indiana State Trooper says an intoxicated man drove a lawnmower up his driveway and then used his 5-year-old son as a shield when local police arrived.

Police say 22-year-old Samuel Wilson of Connersville, Indiana, drove his lawnmower onto ISP Trooper Scott McPheeters' driveway and asked McPheeters to give him a tow.

McPheeters reportedly noticed that Wilson was obviously intoxicated, and also that Wilson's 5-year-old son was also on the lawn mower.

McPheeters offered to call a ride for Wilson and the boy, at which point Wilson reportedly became vulgar and belligerent. McPheeters then took his own children inside and call for assistance.

Wilson reportedly pulled a knife from his belt and threatened McPheeters. When Cambridge City police arrived, Wilson is accused of resisting and refusing to follow directions – even attempting to use his 5-year-old son as a shield.

Officers eventually took Wilson into custody. He was determined to have a BAC of more than two times the legal limit.

Wilson was arrested on preliminary charges of intimidation, criminal recklessness, OWI and resisting law enforcement.

He was being held at the Wayne County Jail.

Wilson's son was released to his custodial parent.
