GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A Greenwood homeowner held a burglary suspect at gunpoint Wednesday morning after investigating a break-in at his house.

The break-in happened around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday when a woman and her husband woke up to the sound of glass breaking in their house in the 800 block of N. Madison Avenue.

The husband grabbed a gun and investigated the noise. He found a stranger in the spare bedroom.

The husband escorted the suspect out of the house and held him at gunpoint until police arrived. Police believe Thompson broke into the house by breaking out a window in the spare bedroom.

The suspect, identified as 46-year-old Kyler W. Thompson, told police he was swimming next door and his friend Robert ran to the victim's house, trying to break in.

Thompson said he was trying to stop Robert from entering the house.

The homeowner next door said she doesn't know Thompson, and he has no permission to be on her property. Police couldn't find anybody named Robert, as described by Thompson.

Thompson had an active arrest warrant out of Indianapolis for felon in possession of a firearm. He was taken to the Johnson County Jail.
