Coroner IDs Lawrence homicide victim in Sunday shooting

LAWRENCE, Ind. -- A man has died after being shot multiple times in Lawrence Sunday evening. 

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. on Rue Madeleine. 

According to the Lawrence Police Department, the victim was shot multiple times by an unknown male. The suspect then fled the scene. 

The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died from his injuries. He has been identified as 33-year-old Mark Bailey.

According to police, witnesses described seeing Bailey walking into an apartment complex when he was approached by an unidentified male with long hair – possible in braids or dreadlocks. The man was wearing a white shirt and khaki shorts.

According to witnesses, the man fired several shots at Bailey and then ran southwest through the complex. No vehicle was observed.

The shooting marks Lawrence's first homicide of 2017.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation by the Lawrence Police Department.
