BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A man is accused of robbing a Bloomington McDonald's while wearing a clown mask.

Juan Ramon Rivera, 20, was arrested on preliminary charges of robbery and criminal confinement in connection with an armed robbery at the McDonald's restaurant located at 2819 E. 3rd Street in Bloomington.

Witnesses told police Rivera entered the restaurant wearing black clothing and a clown mask, and brandishing what appeared to be a black, semi-automatic handgun. The gun was later determined to have been a pellet gun.

According to police, Rivera held a gun to the manager's head and forced him into a back office, where he took approximately $900 in cash before fleeing.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Witnesses pointed police toward Rivera, who was a former employee of that McDonald's because he had shown some of them the same mask that the robber was wearing.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and served it at Rivera's apartment, where they located the clothing and mask worn during the robbery. They also found the pellet gun.

Rivera reportedly told investigators that he committed the robbery because he didn't have enough money to pay his rent.
