INDIANAPOLIS -- A Marion County judge sentenced Michael Grady on Friday to 55 years behind bars for the 2015 murder of David Phelps Jr.

Grady was found guilty of Phelps' murder last month. He was arrested in June 2015 just days after 19-year-old Phelps was found fatally shot in his home in the 3100 block of Cluster Pine Drive.

Witnesses told police that Grady, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, kicked in the front door of the Phelps' family home while they were asleep.

Grady reportedly pointed a gun at Phelps' mother's head, before killing the 19-year-old.

Police found Grady's wallet at the scene of the shooting with his ID inside. A search of his phone records turned up the number of a 15-year-old friend who told police he confessed to her that he shot someone.

Grady was sentenced to 52 years in the Indiana Department of Correction and three years in Marion County Community Corrections. With good behavior, his earliest release date could be in 2043.
