LAWRENCE, Ind. -- The family of a Lawrence man who was shot to death while riding home on his motorcycle last St. Patrick’s Day is pleading for the public’s help to find their loved ones’ killer.

The shooting happened in the early morning hours of March 16, 2016. A passerby came across the site of what appeared to be a motorcycle crash on 46th Street just east of the I-465 Bridge sometime after 2 a.m.

Investigators initially thought that Shawn Green, 37,  had been hurt during the crash, but doctors discovered that he had been shot multiple times.  He died at the hospital.

“To be shot down in the dark and then just leave him lying in someone’s driveway – no,” said Green’s mother, Jacqueline Wilburn. “That was being a coward, cause who would do that? Nobody but a coward.”

Investigators said Green had been at Pure Passion club on 38th Street at Post Road helping a friend with a car repair earlier that night. They believe he left the club and headed home just before 2 a.m.

“On the route to the crash site he was shot someplace in between,” said Lawrence Police Department Chief Gary Woodruff. “We believe it was just up the street.”

A business security camera captured images of Green on his motorcycle with a car behind him at 45th and Franklin - possibly minutes before the shooting - but police have not been able to identify that driver or determine if they were responsible.

Investigators said there was also a text sent to Green’s phone just hours after his death that said: “Police got his phone. Don’t talk about anything.”

Green’s mother said the lack of cooperation by the people who were supposed to be her son’s friends has been frustrating.

“You shot my son. In the back on his way home to us and then you kept going,” said Wilburn. “You are living your life, but you took his. It’s time to man up. It’s time to come forth.”

Anyone with information on the crime should call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.

“Please somebody, come forward,” said Wilburn. “We need closure.”
