JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. – More than two dozen drug-related arrests were made Tuesday as the latest part of a four-year undercover investigation that has netted more than 700 drug buys and arrests.
Law enforcement officers from six different agencies attempted to serve 43 warrants and made 28 arrests in seven different cities on Tuesday. 15 suspects remain at large.
Johnson County Prosecutor Brad Cooper said the sweep was specifically part of a connected six-month investigation by the Franklin Police Department and the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office.
Arrests were made at private residences as well as public places like motels and an airport.
“This is how we do things in Johnson County,” said Cooper. “We don’t aid the addicts by giving them needles, but if they come forward we will find them the treatment that they need.”
Here’s a breakdown of where Tuesday’s arrests were made:
- 18 from Franklin
- 11 from Indianapolis
- 10 from Edinburgh
- 1 from Columbus
- 1 from Greenwood
- 1 from Morgantown
- 1 from Whiteland
As part of the four-year investigation, officers have taken over 50 pounds of meth, heroin and cocaine off the streets and seized over $2.5 million in drug dealer assets.
“We’re taking the drug dealers and the toys that they have off the streets and away from the kids who are overdosing and dying,” said Cooper.
Tuesday’s sweep was a joint effort between the Franklin Police Department, Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office, Indiana State Police, Edinburgh Police Department and U.S. Marshall's Service.
