MUNCIE, Ind. -- A man was arrested Saturday afternoon after attacking police and a Goodwill clerk in Muncie, Indiana, police said.

Police were called to the Goodwill after a caller said a man was preaching and putting his hands on customers.

When they arrived, police found Khalid Bilal and tried to take him into custody. When they tried to put him in handcuffs, Bilal fought back, breaking an unnamed officer's hand, according to a court document.

Bilal charged a second officer, who tased him. After he was tased, the officer tried to handcuff him but Bilal started kicking him. He eventually had to be leg shackled, police said.

While police were struggling with Bilal, he yelled at officers several times, saying they were going to hell and "Allah Akbah," police said.

Bilal also attacked a clerk and threatened to kill her. He became upset while trying to convert her to Islam, police said.

Two days later, Bilal attacked police in the hospital, hitting an officer in the face.

He faces the following charges:

  • Battery with injury
  • Strangulation
  • Battery with injury to police
  • Intimidation
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Battery with no injury to a law enforcement officer
  • Resisting law enforcement
