COLUMBUS, Ind. -- Bartholomew County sheriff's deputies found an abandoned, running vehicle next to another car that was fully engulfed in flames in a wooded area Wednesday night.
Deputies were dispatched to an area east of County Road South 100 West shortly before 10 p.m. on a report of a possible grass fire.
Upon arrival, they found two vehicles – one of which, a Honda Prelude, was engulfed in flames. The other vehicle was not damaged and still running.
It was later determined both vehicles had been reported stolen.
No one was located in the immediate area around where the vehicles were discovered.
The Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department says 79 vehicles were stolen in the county last year. So far, 25 vehicles have already been stolen in the first three months of 2017.
