WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Ind. -- A Ben Davis High School student will face charges after someone reported he had a gun near campus, according to school officials.

Wayne Township Schools Superintendent Jeff Butts put out a call out to parents on Friday afternoon saying that a parent had reported a man near campus with a gun around 3:25 p.m.

Butts said when an officer approached the young man he ran from the officer and into a business on 10th Street before being apprehended.

Police did not find a gun on the student, who was identified as a Ben Davis High School student. He was taken back to the high school for questioning.

Police were working to retrace the student’s path to determine if he was carrying a gun.

School officials say the student will be charged by IMPD and the school will seek expulsion for the maximum time permissible by law.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wayne Township Police Department.
