Swastika discovered on dorm room door at Earlham College

RICHMOND, Ind. -- A swastika was discovered last weekend on a dry erase board hanging on a dorm room door at Earlham College.

Earlham President David Dawson says the person responsible admitted to the incident.

The person was not a student at Earlham and has been banned from visiting the campus.

"This act was completely reprehensible and totally unacceptable. Actions such as this remind us all that we must resist forces of mutual suspicion, division, hatred and resolutely reject all acts of bias or discrimination against anyone or any group," said Dawson.

In addition to a full internal investigation by public safety officers and the Department of Student Life, students gathered Tuesday to express their support for the students who were hurt by the incident.

Student Life also held a discussion for anyone who wanted to talk about what happened or the College's response.

The Jewish Community Relations Council says there's been a definite "uptick" in reports of anti-Semitic and other hate speech in Indiana.

Since last Tuesday's election, at least four such incidents have been reported in the state
