MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. – A man was arrested after police suspected a case of human trafficking Wednesday morning, ISP said.

Indiana State Police pulled over a vehicle for an expired registration plate on I-70 eastbound shortly before 11:10 a.m.

During the stop, the trooper noticed possible signs of criminal activity and learned the three children in the vehicle did not know the driver. The driver, Procopio Torres, 21, of Texas, also did not know the children.

The trooper believed Torres was driving the children, between the ages of 12-16, from Houston, Texas to New York City for profit.

He was taken to the Morgan County Jail and the children were placed into protective custody until their relatives could be located.

There is no information available as to why the three were specifically being transported to New York, but human trafficking is a possibility, police said.
