CLAY COUNTY, Ind. -- A routine traffic stop in Clay County resulted in the seizure of five pounds of heroin with an approximate street value of $225,000.
The incident began shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday when an Indiana State Police trooper patrolling along I-70 in Clay County noticed a silver Nissan Altima with Oregon plates following too closely.
The trooper initiated a traffic stop, during which he reportedly noticed “several indicators of criminal activity.”
The trooper then requested a K-9 unit, which was answered by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department. K-9 Officer “Gnash” subsequently indicated on the trunk of the vehicle.
Inside the trunk, police reportedly found seven packages of suspected heroin totally approximately five pounds, with an estimated street value of $225,000.
The people inside the vehicle were reportedly traveling from Los Angeles to Columbus, Ohio.
As a result of the stop, police arrested two people: 23-year-old Edgar Ramos-Luna and 19-year-old Emily Hernandez, both of North Hills, California.
Both faces charges of dealing in a controlled substance and possession of a narcotic drug.
Both suspects were booked into the Clay County Jail without incident.
