INDIANAPOLIS -- A 67-year-old Near Eastside resident says he wasn't even sure he'd actually been shot at – until someone pointed out the bullet hole in his rear fender.
Charles Prewitt said he left his house this morning around 7:00 a.m. like usual to go pick up a newspaper from Kroger.
As he turned at the corner of Bradley Avenue and Walnut Street, he says he thought he heard a bang, but wasn't sure.
"I went down there to the corner … I didn't even see anybody," Prewitt said. "I turned the corner and thought I heard a gunshot. I wasn't sure. I went on down the street and stopped at the Village Pantry. I stopped and I was talking to some old boy, and he said, 'Is that your vehicle?' I said yeah. He said, 'Right there is where that gunshot went.' There was a hole as big as my thumb."

Prewitt, who is retired from a career working at a printing press, said he's never had anything like it happen before in all his years living on the Near Eastside.
"That's one of them rare occasions," he said. "That boy may have had a wild hair or something. I don't know."
Indianapolis police detained an individual for questioning in the incident, but no arrests were made.
Prewitt says the shooting doesn't make him feel any less safe. He says he just tries to get along with everybody.
"I didn't even know what happened until … like they say, everything's already over and I'm just finding out about it," he said, laughing.
