PERU, Ind. -- Dozens of vehicles have been targeted by egg-vandals in Peru and police are scrambling to find the culprits.

They’re not the kind of eggs you want to wake up to first thing in the morning – for the past few days residents in the 3rd Street and 5th Street neighborhoods have woken up to find their cars covered in eggs.

The vandals appear to be going on overnight egg-throwing sprees – hitting 62 vehicles since Friday.

Patricia Davis said her and her husband’s vehicles were both targeted over the weekend.

“I think they’re doing it for the prank-ness – just as something to do because they don’t have anything to do,” said Patricia Davis. “No idea why someone would want to go out and randomly damage someone’s property.”

If it is a prank – there aren’t very many people laughing.

“I was mad about it… then I noticed all these cars down the road on both sides were egged,” said Daniel Farmer.  “I want to say maybe young people out having fun. In their eyes, it’s fun, maybe.”

Peru Police Chief Michael Meeks said his officers are stepping up patrols in those areas where vehicles were targeted.

Meeks said his officers are also looking at grocery store surveillance cameras in the area to see if they can find anyone buying eggs in bulk.
