INDIANAPOLIS -- Stephanie Tinnin holds her grandson Jace with her right arm. The 6-year-old rests his head on her shoulder.
"Had to tell a 6-year-old his mother's never coming back," Tinnin said at a vigil for Jace's mother Monday night. "How do you do that? it's the hardest thing I've ever had to do."
She's trying to comfort him just a day after his mother, Jasmine Moore, died. She had hopes of building a better life for her son. Moore had recently graduated from the Paul Mitchell School with a cosmetology certificate.
Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, police found Moore, 28, on Tremont Street, shot in the torso.

Tinnin said Moore was leaving a nearby nightclub when the shooting started.
"They heard shooting and started running and my baby had to be the one to get killed," Tinnin said.
Medics took her to Methodist Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Detectives are trying to find the person or people who took her life.

The grieving mother asked whoever is responsible to go to police.
"Whoever you are, just turn yourself in," Tinnin said. "Show that you've got a heart."
Holding each other in grief, other family members pleaded with anybody with information to come forward.
"I just want to know my daughter's killer is behind bars," Tinnin said.
