WASHINGTON, D.C. - Beyonce lip-synced the Star-Spangled Banner at Monday's inaugural ceremonies, a Marine Corps Band spokeswoman told ABC news.

The band was asked not to play only for Beyonce rousing rendition of the national anthem at President Barack Obama's second inauguration Monday, Master Sgt. of the U.S. Marine Corps Band Kristin Dubois told ABC News.

"We all know Beyonce can sing. We all know the Marine Corps Band can play," she said. "We do not know why she decided to go with the pre-recorded music at the last minute."

The pop star seemed to be having audio issues at one point during the song, pulling out her ear piece.

Dubois said it's her understanding that Beyonce lip-synced to a recording of her own voice.

At Obama's first inauguration in 2009, cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlmandid not play the version of John Williams' "Air and Simple Gifts" that was projected onto the Mall because of cold and wind.

It was about 40 degrees outside at noon Monday.

A representative for Beyonce did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Kelly Clarkson's representative said she sang live to perform "My Country, `Tis of Thee."
