Smartphone app Uber offers delivery service for ice cream

Want some ice cream? No need to scream, just pick up a smartphone.

In several big U.S. cities including Indianapolis, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. you can use your phone to order ice cream on Friday, July 19.

The promotion is offered by Uber -- the San Francisco startup known for letting people order private drivers using a smartphone app. The ice cream-on-demand service is good for today only -- and there are requirements that have to be met to get a cone or dish headed your way.

Ice cream trucks will be on the road Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The cost is $25 for five pieces.

Orders can be placed via the Uber app (available for download on Apple and Android) and will be charged directly to your credit card. Please note that delivery times will vary depending on demand.
