Police: $12K In Marijuana, $10K In Cash Found In Car

A traffic stop in Carmel turned into a major drug bust after deputies found close to $22,000 in drugs and cash, police said.

A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy pulled over two Indianapolis men Saturday morning in the 11000 block of Spring Mill Road in Carmel, police said.

The deputy said he smelled the odor of marijuana. When he searched the vehicle, police said he found two bags of the drug -- about one pound -- under the front passenger seat.

The marijuana is believed to have a street value in the neighborhood of $12,000, police said.

The deputy also recovered approximately $10,000 in cash in the vehicle and on the two men, police said.

The driver -- Jeffrey Smith, 50, of Indianapolis -- was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana, dealing marijuana and operating a motor vehicle never having received a license.
